Summary Vizualizations

- This vizualization shows the change in the percent of the world that has been forested between 1992 and 2016.
- As can be seen, the total percent of the world that is forested has steadily declined over the years from just over 32.5% to about 31.8%.

- This viz compares the percentage of four countries that are forested from 1992-2016. It also shows how the GDP per capita of the four countries has changed over that time.
- For the two countries with large drops in forestry percentage (Indonesia and Brazil), you can see that this drop has not been accompanied by an increase in GDP per capita. One might hypothesize then that both countries allowing large corporations to come in and use their natural resources has not improved the financial position of their native populations.
Map of Deforestation

- A world map showing the change in forestry percentage of each country over time
- As you can see, the Global South has seen a lot of deforestation. Interestingly though, the two most populous countries (China and India) have seen increases in forestation since 1992
